Nicolas, where have you been? – Leo Lionni

Nicolas and the other field mice are looking for the reddest, juiciest berries.  They are disappointed the birds seems to have gotten to the berries first.  Nicolas and his friends become very angry with the birds and Nicolas stomps off to find the juiciest, reddest berries he can.  While he is walking a fierce bird captures him in its talons and flies with him into the sky.  Nicolas wiggles with all his might and the bird drops him.  Fortunately, Nicolas lands in the nest of a robin family.  The baby birds ask him to stay and tell them stories.   The mother agrees he can stay and feeds Nicolas berries along with feeding her babies.  The birds grow up and Nicolas realizes he must go back to the ground.  When he reaches the ground below he meets his friend and tells them his story.  At first they are furious with birds thinking the birds only steal berries and carry off mice.  However, the birds realize not all birds are alike when Nicolas tells them of the family of birds with whom he has been at home.
